Dedicated to Community Service

Our Shelter
Our primary function is to
offer shelter, care, and medical/behavioral attention to abused and neglected animals.  Often these animals are rescued by our investigators or found by local animal control agencies within Orange County.  Others are found tied to our fence or left in a carrier outside our building.  Animal abuse and abandonment is punishable by law and our HVSPCA investigators are dedicated to tracking down offenders.

Due to the high number of rescued abuse victims and abandoned animals in need of shelter, we are only able to accept surrendered companion animals on a limited bases if there is available space. If the HVSPCA is unable to take in a surrendered companion animal, we post that pet on our Virtual Shelter.   The animal is added to our internal database which uploads to Petfinder.com.  We make every effort to find each pet a new forever home.  If you need to surrender a pet, please read our Surrendering a Pet page for details and contact information.

At the HVSPCA, each animal's true personality is allowed to surface and any behavioral or emotional problems are addressed.  We aim to turn abused and neglected animals into lovable, adoptable companions for the members of our community.  It is our service to you.  For more information, contact
hvspca@yahoo.com or call (845) 564-6810.

LAW ENFORCEMENT DIVISION  |  DOG TRAINING  |  THRIFT STORE  |  SPAY/NEUTER |    CREMATORIUM

The Hudson Valley SPCA Law Enforcement Division                                  Return to List
The present Law Enforcement Division consists of three experienced investigators with over 65 years of experience.  All investigators are New York State Peace Officers.  The Hudson Valley SPCA works primarily in Orange County, New York but can, upon request of another agency, work in other areas of the state.

To report a case of abuse, call (845) 564-6810.  You are required to give your name and phone number as we do not take anonymous phone calls.  We will NOT reveal your identify.

Upon receiving a complaint or abuse report, the issue is assigned to an investigator who will go to the location and observe typical activities without confronting anyone at that location.  If necessary, they will do surveillance work as required.  Once the investigator confirms that the complaint is legitimate, they will speak to the people within the household.  A search warrant may be needed in the cases of uncooperative household occupants.

If neglected, sick, or abused animals are found, there are several different ways it will be handled.
  * If the animal is not in immediate danger, the investigator issues an Order to Comply giving the defendant a certain amount of days to correct the situation prior to re-inspection.
  * If the animal does appear to be in immediate danger or near death, the animal will be removed and turned over to a local animal control agency to be brought to a vet for immediate care.

Confirmed abusers will either be issued a summons where they are required to appear in court and/or can be charged criminally, arrested, and brought before a judge to be arraigned on charges.

The Hudson Valley SPCA Law Enforcement Division does NOT receive operations funds from any Town, County, or State government.  Our Investigators are NON-PAID VOLUNTEERS who spend countless hours "helping those who cannot speak for themselves".

With donations, we hope to implement a software solution to reduce paperwork and increase efficiency and data availability.  Each investigator needs their own laptop computer and vehicle for field work (currently they have no laptops and only one vehicle to share).  We need money to fuel our vehicle, for tolls when our investigators respond to calls, and for any future repairs the vehicle will require.

Please send your donations to the Hudson Valley SPCA Law Enforcement Division or use the PayPal button below which will automatically mark the donation for the Law Enforcement Division.

The HVSPCA Thrift Store                                                                              Return to List
Our Thrift Store is a necessary part of our yearly income and proceeds directly supports our homeless animals waiting to be adopted.  By shopping in the Thrift Store or by donating household items, you are helping animals in need.

A Thrift Store is a great place to look for hidden treasures: antiques sold for only pennies that are worth hundreds or simply a beautiful painting that will look great in your living room!  Open Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10am - 4pm.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Hudson Valley SPCA Thrift Store, please email hvspca@yahoo.com or call (845) 564-6810.  All donation are tax deductible.

Spay/Neuter Services                                                                                       Return to List
At this time, the Hudson Valley SPCA does not have the funds to create a Spay/Neuter Clinic but we hope to provide this service to our community in the future!

We use and recommend T.A.R.A for low cost spay/neuter services!  Click here to view their website and learn about their low cost services!

Crematorium Services                                                                                       Return to List
We are a no kill shelter. Our crematorium is used solely for beloved pets who have passed on due to old age or illness.  The income we receive from our crematorium services directly provides support to our homeless dogs and cats.

We know how terribly sad it is to lose a beloved pet. We are here for you in our ability to cremate your pet at the time of need.  We are respectful of our work in caring for your pet at that time of loss and sorrow. More information coming soon on our Crematorium Services page.
